Confusion About Artificial Sweeteners

MORE THAN HALF OF PARENTS IN THE U.S. TRY TO AVOID ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS, YET FEW CAN ACTUALLY IDENTIFY THEM, ACCORDING TO A NEW HARRIS INTERACTIVE POLL. THAT IS WHY MANY ARE UNKNOWINGLY CONSUMING ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS. AND THE FDA SHOULD HELP CLEAR UP CONSUMER CONFUSION SAYS ANDY BRISCOE, PRESIDENT AND CEO OF THE SUGAR ASSOCIATION.

Something needs to be done, especially as more and more sweeteners are making their way from laboratories into lunchrooms.”

A CONSUMER’S RIGHT TO KNOW PETITION HAS BEEN BEFORE THE FDA FOR FIVE YEARS. IT MIRRORS CANADA’S HIGH LABELING STANDARDS AND WOULD REQUIRE CLEARLY LISTING SWEETENERS ON THE FRONT OF FOOD PACKAGES. BRISCOE IS HOPEFUL THE NEW HARRIS STUDY WILL ENCOURAGE THE FDA TO ACT.
