Hurrican Season IS Flood Season:

Know your own flood risk.  Get the facts.  Take action to protect yourself and your family.

FEMA - FloodSmart

FLASH

April 30, 2009 - Hurricane Season IS flood season. Floods are the most frequent and costly natural disaster in the United States—and the time to prepare is now. In addition to learning appropriate safety precautions, FEMA recommends protecting property with a flood insurance policy.  It typically takes 30 days from the time of purchase for a policy to become effective.

On April 30, FLASH teamed up with FEMA to unveil a new flood exhibit, StormStruck – A Tale of Two Homes®. This four dimensional interactive weather experience is now open at INNOVENTIONS at Epcot® at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

Max Mayfield, internationally-renowned weather expert and former seven-year Director of the National Hurricane Center, along with Leslie Chapman-Henderson, President of FLASH spoke to viewers at the exhibit opening about how to asses their flood risk and how to safeguard their properties with flood insurance coverage. They also  shared details about the development of this unique, interactive exhibit.

The StormStruck exhibit provides educational fun for the whole family, and teaches us that just a few inches of water can cost thousands of dollars in repairs. Individuals can learn how to prepare for floods, how to purchase a flood insurance policy and the benefits of protecting property against flooding by visiting Floodsmart.gov or calling 1-800-427-2419.
